August 2025: Millcreek Bridge Banner Project Complete

The long-awaited reinstallation of flags on Millcreek Bridge representing La Francophonie is complete! Thank you to our incredible partners at the City of Edmonton who have worked alongside us to see this vision through. Their collaboration and expertise throughout this multi-year project, from the original installation of flags in 2018 to the planning and execution of this renewal using mesh banners was crucial to its completion.

A Bridge Without Borders: Celebrating Canada’s Francophone Cultural Diversity

In the heart of the French Quarter, the Millcreek Bridge continues to undergo a transformation. A Bridge Without Borders symbolizes the enduring bond between French speaking nations and our community’s Francophone heritage. Since 2018 the bridge has displayed flags representing member countries of l’Organisation internationale de la francophonie.

  • 2016-2018: Work began to bring the idea to life through coordination with the City of Edmonton and Aurora Flags & Banners.
  • 2018: September 24 marked the official unveiling and the completed installation of 52 flags and 4 monument signs at each corner of the bridge.
  • 2022: Due to wear from wind and weather, the original flags are being replaced with durable mesh banners. The flagpoles were temporarily removed for off-site bracket upgrades, and preparations for the new installation have been underway.
  • 2025: After extensive planning and coordination with the City of Edmonton, we are thrilled to share that the long awaited mesh banners will soon be installed. With final preparations nearly complete, we anticipate the project to be finished this summer!
